We welcome you to Cremona!
1. General Information
1.1 Cremona is a perfect location for the festival. The city and its institutions have yearlong experience in hosting and organising cultural events of many different kinds, offer efficient and suitable infrastructure, and as the “world capital of the violin” the city places itself as the most appropriate location for an orchestra festival. For more information on the city and its treasures look at www.comune.cremona.it
1.2 The EOF is a major and regular event of EOFed taking place every third year. Previous festivals were held in 1988 in Friedrichshafen (D), then in Solothurn (CH), Brno (ČZ), Leiden (NL), Lyon (F), Vaduz/Werdenberg (FL/CH), Chemnitz (D), Dalfsen (NL) and Tallinn (EE).
There will be on-line registration procedure. The deadline for registration is November 30th, 2014. The registration form will be published on the EOFed home page in October 2014 and will include the rules and conditions of the event.
2. The structure EOF `15
2.1 The musical part
The musical part of the festival is divided in
– performances by participating orchestras
– workshops: rehearsals and performances.
It is also envisaged to hold a seminar session on the subject of Creativity in Music thus taking advantage of two composers being present (see below).
The musical part of the festival in detail:
a) Concert performances by participating orchestras:
Many orchestras, large and small, take advantage of this opportunity and present themselves to their colleagues from all over Europe and to a local audience.
There will be three or four orchestras performing for about 20 minutes each in one concert event, depending on the number of orchestras, which wish to perform.
All musicians of participating orchestras also play in a workshop.
The workshops are ad-hoc ensembles composed of participants from the different countries. Lead by professionals they rehearse a piece of music and perform it in public at prestigious venues in the city.
With the registration each participant indicates his/her preference for one of the workshops offered.
Depending on the number of participants there will be 6 or more workshops of the following genres:
1 Italian baroque/pre-classical, conductor Mario Gioventú, Italy
2 (early) classical symphony, conductor t.b.d.
3 romantic symphony (large orchestra), conductor David Ramael, Belgium/USA
4 symphonic jazz, conductor t.b.d.
5 Italian traditional/folk music, conductor t.b.d.
6 contemporary music 1, the composer conducts his own piece, conductor Paul Hertel, Austria
7 contemporary music 2/cross-over, commissioned work presented by the composer with the participation of a 3-man jazz band, conductor Christof Brunner, Switzerland.
Workshops can be doubled according to the number of registrations.
The workshops rehearse in three time segments and perform in concerts of some 20 minutes each. The parts will be made available in advance for individual practice.
